Sea Shanties

Music        Reception        Year One        Year Two

What are sea shanties?

Sailors used to sing ‘shanties’ when thy ey had long repetitive tasks that required a sustained rhythm. The song was used when the crew needed to raise and lower heavy sails or the ship's anchors. They even sang them when they were scrubbing the deck or repairing various  parts of the ship.
