Music        Reception        Year One        Year Two

Take a look at the examples below of different instruments you could make using items and empty packaging you have at home. Why not watch Mrs Meldrum's video further down the page for some more creative ideas.

Musical Challenges

Choose any of the challenges below to complete. If you don't have any instruments at home, maybe you can make one using the ideas above or you could go on a scavenger hunt for items that can make some great musical sounds, for example; a saucepan and a wooden spoon would make a great drum, two wooden spoons can become claves or some lego pieces in a lunch box could become a wonderful shaker. Take a look and see what you can find but always remember to ask your grown up if it is ok to use it first.

Don't forget there's always your own body percussion you could use, that's the sound your own body makes when you tap, clap or stamp using the different parts of your body.

Remember you do not need to do all these challenges in one go today. Why not have some fun with one now and then come back another day and try a different one.

Can you use your homemade instrument to keep the beat with this folk song from Ghana in Africa?
