Welcome to music

This week we will be thinking about:

  • Listening to music and the emotions it can create.
  • Looking at similarities and differences between two pieces of music.

 Listen and Appraise

What instruments do you hear?

How does this make you feel?

What is the tempo of this music? (fast or slow?)

What are the dynamics of this music?  (loud or soft)

What is the pitch of the music?  (high or low)

Did you like it?  (explain your reason why?)

(Remember you don't have to like the same type of music as your friend)

The Neverending Story- Bastian's Happy Flight

 Comparing sounds!

Listen to the next two pieces of music. These are theme tunes to children's television shows your parents or even your grandparents may have watched when they were as little as you.

Think about these questions whilst listening to the music.

  • What sounds can you hear?
  • What instruments can you hear?
  • What is the same and what is different?

  • Which of these do you like the most? Why?

The Wombling Song

The Flumps theme tune

You do...

On the activity sheet write or draw all the things you notice that are the same and are different about these two pieces of music.
