Welcome to music

This week we will be thinking about:

  • Listening to music and understanding the emotions it can create.
  • Listening out for the instrument sounds we can hear. Is everything as it sounds?
  • Discovering which instruments we will find in an orchestra.

 Listen and Appraise

What instruments do you hear?

How does this make you feel?

What is the tempo of this music? (fast or slow?)

What are the dynamics of this music?  (loud or soft)

What is the pitch of the music?  (high or low)

Did you like it?  (explain your reason why?)

(Remember you don't have to like the same type of music as your friend)

Jimmy Fallon, The Roots & "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Cast Sing "Star Wars" Medley (A Cappella)

Did you spot that there were
NO INSTRUMENTS PLAYED?
All the instrument sounds are actually the singers voice. This is called acapella where voices are used to imitate the sounds of musical instruments.

Let's listen to another song. What instruments do you think you can hear? Can you see who might be making the sounds of the different instruments?

You could have a dance to find the beat. Remember you need to still be listening out for what is making the instrument sounds.

Acapop! KIDS - NOTHING BREAKS LIKE A HEART by Mark Ronson ft. Miley Cyrus (Official Music Video)

What instruments can be                             found in an orchestra?

Now let's take a look at some real instruments that can be found in an orchestra with our friend George. Have a listen to all these different types of instruments then after we can talk about all the interesting things you spotted or heard.

Which instrument was your favourite?

Now let's have a listen to the Cbeebies Prom, where we will see all these instruments playing some tunes we know and love.
